Camphor molecules around the world in the 19th century
G02
Dr. Mackay, the first Presbyterian missionary in Taiwan, offered dental service under an old tree in Shitan. Missionaries in the old days usually recorded local customs and traditions with their cameras. Dr. Mackay thought it was interesting that the camphor exported to the United States was used to make films for cameras and these films were used to film Shitan.
Different sizes of camphor branches were collected to make giant loops. This work symbolizes the development of camphor industry in the past as well as a time tunnel which connects now and future.
